Wife is Jessica Cairns, former Federation Ambassador, and currently Chief of Mission at the Federation Diplomatic Office on Hargoth Base. Blond, blue eyes, average height, fit figure. Comes from a family of wealthy businessmen. After college she attended graduate school where she earned a double degree in law and business. However, she decided to work with the Diplomatic Corps after school. She and Travis met when they were both in graduate school (he was doing MD/PhD work in neuroscience). For several weeks they both went to the same cafeteria for lunch, and eventually started smiling across the dining hall at each other. Slowly, they began to exchange short quips while waiting to receive food, and one day, during a school visit to the university, there were no free tables with the exception of one; they dined together, and upon finding that they had a lot in common became good friends.

Near to their graduation dates, they were both looking for jobs. They both had interviews for first-jobs in San Francisco, on Earth, and decided (being students who wanted to live independently of their parents) that they could manage sharing a hotel room. In a comedy of errors, the room was much smaller then they expected and there was only one bed. Travis volunteered on the couch, however that night at dinner they both expressed their hidden love for each other. For a few years they maintained a long-distance relationship, however once they were both high-level professionals in their lines of work (at this time Travis was working in civilian hospitals and Jesse was in a civilian law-firm representing a major conglomerate). They married, and lived happily on Earth until the RA Wars. For various reasons, they both moved to DS13, where they once again entered into their long-distance relationship and dealt with new jobs in the Federation as an ambassador and a doctor. Recently, following failed negotiations between Bajor and the Son'a, Jesse came to Hargoth where she has accepted her new position as Chief of Mission to stay close to Travis who is now the Commanding Officer.

Sons are Tom (16) and Scott (15), both of whom are adopted. Tom's parents abandoned him and his older siblings when he was 2, and was then moved through various foster homes and group homes. He found life difficult, mainly because of the social implications of moving throughout group homes. Furthermore, he was secretly being physically abused by the directors of one particular group home, and sexually harassed and molested by other boys who lived there. He eventually decided that life had become too difficult, and attempted suicide. Travis was the ER doctor who treated him, and then (while still in the hospital) became Tom's psychiatrist. The two grew close, Tom confiding in Travis about his life's hardships, and after Travis was told that for his own safety Tom would have to go to a juvenile detention center, Travis and Jesse took steps to adopt him. However, immediately after the adoption was finalized they had to move to DS13, where Tom lived for one year afterwards with Travis's parents.

Before Travis and Jesse adopted Tom, they adopted Scott, who suffered from similar hardships. His parents were cargo ship captains, and when he was nine his parents and brother died in a cargo ship accident. Like Tom, Scott was sent through various group and foster homes, where he was exposed to crime and corruption. He eventually fled to the streets, and was then brought in by police. At this time, the law firm Jesse worked at was undergoing several scandals, and in an effort to boost PR required all of the lawyers to perform a minimum of 85 hours of pro bono work. Jesse became Scott's attorney, and, much like Travis and Tom, the two grew close. When Jesse became ambassador, Scott chose to travel with her as opposed to staying with Tom on DS13.

After being assigned to Hargoth, Travis chose to send for Tom and had him move so the two could live together. However, during Travis's time as a Federation officer Tom had grown and the two still find adjusting to life on Hargoth with Travis as CO difficult. However, not long afterwards Scott and Jesse came too, which seems to be helping ease Tom's attitude.

Travis and Jesse also have two dogs, Gorki and Aristotle. Gorki is a year older then Aristotle, and the two lived with Jesse and Scott during her time as an ambassador. Travis's mother was a professor who then  worked as a dean at a university and his father was a professor who then worked as a corporate consultant. The two currently reside on DS13 and are doing research and working to continue publishing. Jesse's father works as CEO of a conglomerate, and her mother as a lawyer.

Additional Information:

Travis is one of the Federation's most gifted doctors. He earned both degrees in allopathic medicine and research, performing dissertation work on the chemical basis of depression and using cerebral-spinal fluid to test and treat this pathology. He managed to complete both degrees and research in only six years, earned several awards. He then completed apprenticeships in two years, emerging certified in trauma surgery, critical care, emergency medicine, neuropsychiatry, and neurosurgery.

For several years Travis worked as a physician in civilian hospitals. While there, he reached the status of senior attending physician in two years, and worked in several departments. He was also an active researcher, and acclaimed neurosurgeon.

During his tenure in a civilian hospital on Earth, his mentor developed a brain tumor requiring resection; he came to Travis to perform the surgery. Travis agreed, however during the surgery his mentor seized and Travis slipped, leading the man to persistent vegetative state. Disillusioned, and with the RA Wars starting, Travis joined Starfleet.

Travis's training means that he would be well-suited to several positions, namely medical, science, or counseling. Travis went to work as Chief Medical Officer on the USS Guernica-A and USS Guernica-B under LtCmdr Christopher Black for some time. While there, he dealt with several complex medical and scientific cases, quickly rising through the ranks. Feeling strained from his family and in terms of work, upon reaching the rank of lieutenant commander he moved to Hargoth Base, to serve as CMO under Cmdr Jila Keran.

Soon after arriving at Hargoth, Travis found himself in position of commanding officer. Cmdr Jila resigned her commission to help an injured friend, and the then-XO was away on personal leave. Since then he has dealt with Orion terrorists, and a resurgence of Pah-wraith power on Bajor which he worked to quell along with the help of Capt Ben Delaney, Cmdr Jerry O'Connor, and their crews.

Travis enjoys all facets of medicine and science; he is often found reading journals and databases in his free time. He also enjoys classical music, having trained as a concert pianist and violinist. Finally, Travis is an avid archer in his free time. Archery, a medieval Earth form of offense, involves a cocked piece of string rung through a flexible, turned stick, or bow, and aerodynamic, pointed arrows. Travis works to apply these skills to modern phaser weaponry, and is an excellent shot, having developed hand-eye coordination through neurosurgery.
