Personality:

 Khoal is an angry man. He takes his duty seriously but has a short temper and, when angered, speaks before thinking. He has very little time for people who are, or do who do things, that he perceives as frivolous, pointless or just plain stupid. He does have a more sensitive side which he hides behind his gruff and grouchy exterior. This sensitivity only really shows itself when Khoal spends time with his music.

History:
Khoal was born to a poor family of farmers on Romulus. As a young boy, his parents sent him away to live with his uncle in the Romulan capital city of Ra'tleihfi. His uncle, a successful barrister, brought him up to believe in the good of the Empire and that while the Empire was superior to other governments, there was always room for improvement as well.
 
When he came of age, Khoal enlisted in the Imperial Navy. He served several years on varying ships, reaching the rank of Sublieutenant. Shortly after achieving this rank, however, it was made very clear to him that, because of his ‘inferior’ lineage he would not receive another promotion for many, many years, if at all. Outraged that the Empire would still use class as an excuse to hold back his career, despite his superior abilities, he left the Imperial Fleet in favour of joining Starfleet, the Star Empire’s relatively new ally. He hopes that his experience in the Federation will give him knowledge that he can someday bring back to Romulus to help fix what few flaws he, and his uncle, see in the near-perfect Romulan Star Empire.
